Welcome 2010

By the light of a full moon, Brendan and I celebrated the beginning of 2010 on Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui.

This year, unlike last year, we came prepared - armed with our own fireworks and mini hot air balloons to set off…just in case things were a little quiet. We needn’t have worried because I have never seen so many people on Chaweng Beach and it seemed that every man, woman and child possessed a small nation’s worth of fireworks that they were setting off (some with better aim than others….).

We started the evening off with a very civilized pre-dinner drink and cheese plate on the beach as the sun set and the full moon emerged over the ocean – truly beautiful. After a killer penang curry, it was back down to the beach with fireworks and camera in hand. It was fun setting off our fireworks, despite how lame they were in comparison to the midnight show. One of the bar’s had even arranged for a barge to sit just off the shore, stacked with about 200 fireworks, waiting patiently for midnight.

As midnight rolled around the sky lit up and we were all ducking as the whole beach seemed to “take off” – I have never actually felt the ground move from so many fireworks going off at once. It was crazy…if not a tad dangerous…but the Thai’s sure know how to put on a good show and what’s NYE without a bit of smoke inhalation!

So…out with the old and in with the new. 2010 promises to be a huge year – have no idea what adventures await us, but that’s what makes it so exciting. I hope you all had a great NYE and are currently enjoying whatever hangover cure you swear by. May 2010 be a happy, safe and successful year for all of you and your families. All our love :)

//Kate
