Green Day at night, greener the next morning.

Seeing Green Day live in Bangkok. Not a bad way to spend the last night of our two months in Thailand. To say it went off would be an understatement. It was pure entertainment. Apart from them simply performing all of their own stuff, which is damn good anyway, they also mixed in a few covers of other famous songs, like Hey Jude and Highway To Hell. Sounds pretty all over the place, but the way they worked them in and around their own material was seamlessly creative and a joy to watch. Other moments of inspired brilliance included the drunk man in a pink bunny outfit skulling beers onstage before the band started (apparently it is like a trademark for the band, and always happens before a performance) and when the lead singer mooned the entire audience, which i doubt anyone was expecting, right in the middle of a song.

We were told that there were strictly no cameras allowed in the concert hall, so we checked in ours obediently, like the scared little white westerners we are. Once we were inside the hall however, we felt a bit cheated, given that apparently every other person attending was armed with an camera-equipped iphone and prepared to use it. I’d say if you look on youtube you could probably find a video for the whole gig. Must admit it was funny at times when an anthem style song was being played, and everyone was holding up their phones, swaying them above their heads like little 21st century lighters.

Great night. Great way to farewell our beloved Thailand. Dunno when we will be back... but we will :)

(as a slightly less chirpy side note, on the way home at 1am, we agreed that the best way to round off our already perfect evening would be to get a big dirty kebab from a dubious vendor on koh san road. Kate had one bite before realising the error of her ways... I finished my half, had the rest of her half, and am still sitting in the bathroom to this day. I think i just lost a kidney...)

The next day - a bus, another bus, a flight, a train, a ferry, and here we are in Lamma Island in HONG KONG! we are staying with a nice chap we met through couchsurfing, and he is allowing us to use the internet (and his bathroom), as well as his spare room. What a champ.

What are we up to next? Nothing confirmed, but in hong kong, how could it not be fun? till then!
