We Have Arrived In Malaysia

After being on board a slow, cramped plane for over 9 hours, nursing our headaches from the night before at our farewell gathering (thanks to everyone who made it such a great night!) Kate and I were pretty relieved to arrive in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

We have been here for over 24 hours now, so we consider ourselves hip enough to refer to the city as KL.

We have found a nice, clean-ish hostel for AU$6.50 a night, and are settling in well (we passed on the $4 one which threw in a few rats for free with each room).

The people here are very friendly, and the food is varied, spicy and exciting. last night i had chicken tail curry and kate had "beef" with rice. all the food we have eaten so far has been from street vendors tended by suspicious characters, yet here we are still feeling great. wonder how long before i jinx myself and end up dead.

last interesting thing worthy of mention is that this whole town seems to share the same dial up connection, so we are experiencing some minor delays when it comes to uploading our photos so far. any uploaded succesfully will be in the Malaysia Album after you click on the link down the bottom of the page, or just click HERE.

  1. Glad to see that you made it OK. (Dad and I are really proud of how we are coping. No major teary outbursts just some gentle tears. We have planned out the next twelve months and part of that it to see you guys this time next year wherever you are.Mother's day card was beautiful. really loved it. You can edit out this bit if you like) Great photos. We will look forward to tracing your trip. The large map is up on the wall and already marked with the beginning plane ride. Love mum and dad

  4. omg WELCOME!!! i suppose now's just about the right time for me to randomly throw you suggestions as to where to go... errrrm... bukit bintang street for shopping! (or Sungei Wang, or Berjaya Times Square but i always get lost in there. for bargains - Petaling Street.) FRIM for nature hikes! (this is a huge forest reserve) i'm guessing you guys would already have been to KLCC & the tower. there's a revolving restaurant up there if you're feelin rich :P but yup, you gotta eat all the filthy hawker stuff by the roadsides to get a taste of Malaysia :) ok ok i'll stop rambling n come up with a list of places you might like to visit (or you've probably already done your own research, but i'm gonna tell you anyway) have fun in the meantime!!
