I only just got used to writing 2012, and now 2013 is now upon us! With the dawn of 2013, our little blog enters into it's 6th year of existence. What was envisaged as a 12-24 month adventure around the world continues, and it isn't showing any signs of stopping any time soon. So out with 2012, and bring on the adventures and good times that 2013 promises. To our friends and family scattered around the globe, we send all our love and best wishes for the year ahead. I think this quote sums it up beautifully:

Well said Neil! Let's all resolve to be wiser and kinder, and the world will be a better place.
NYE was a quiet and relaxing affair for us this year. In our friends' absence, we commandeered their amazing balcony with views of the Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa and set up for the night with cheese and champagne. The Dubai fireworks were pretty good, but I think when it comes down to it, Sydney really takes the crown when it comes to NYE fireworks displays!
Before we go any further into 2013, a quick catch up of some of the last minute happenings of 2012 that should not go unmentioned.
Brendan has already talked about our amazing trip to France (well, he mainly just talked about cheese, but can you blame him?) but after Paris we headed back to London for a couple of days where we got the chance to catch up with Megan (a friend we met while teaching in Korea) hit the London Christmas Market for some hot Christmas Cider and then I made a quick dash down to see Patrick, Emma, Mathew and Thomas for an evening. 'Aunty times' are too few and far between, so take advantage of any time I can grab with my gorgeous nephews.
Back in Dubai - last weekend we ended up jumping in the car with Tom and Amy (some of our Dubai-based buddies) and heading out through the desert to Al Ain which is just under 150km southeast of Dubai. What's the attraction? Well, this little satellite city is home to a reasonably good zoo which we wandered around for a couple of hours before driving up Jebel Hafeet (a mountain bordering on Oman) for great sunset views. It was nice to do more exploring around our local region - we have been a bit slack on that front recently and definitely need to step it up in 2013 and really take advantage of this unique opportunity while it lasts.
