Karaoke, Camping and Loud Shirts

Happy New Financial Year! Kate and I headed to our home-away-from-home of Pohang last weekend to celebrate our mate's birthday. We marked the occasion by heading to the local beach to let off a bucket load of fireworks, which was a pretty popular activity that night since it also happened to be the 4th of July. We had a pretty decent assortment of the things, and we weren't exactly sure what each one was meant to do. We took the cautious approach of 'lets set it on fire and see what happens next'. Mostly positive results, with very few injuries to onlookers. The fireworks weren't the only things on fire that night; we all headed to a local karaoke room later that evening and spent a couple of hours having fun and generally proving to each other that we are tone deaf. Great, Korean-style fun.
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but recently Kate and I purchased a 2 man tent online, so that we can camp out during the 3 day rock festival we are attending later this month up in Seoul. We thought it would be a good idea to test out the tent at a local beach just for one night to make sure everything worked the way it should. So on friday night just gone we packed up a picnic dinner, our airbeds and our new little tent and headed to Hu-Jong beach, just 15 minutes walk from our place.

We found a nice, flat spot and set up the tent. No problems. We even started a little campfire using 3 pallettes that we found discarded on the side of the road on the way to the beach. Everything was going really well until about 11pm when a bunch of soldiers turned up the patrol the big ugly fences that are all along the coast. They told us that we were camping on military land, and that we had to move along. Well, about 20 minutes later we were back in our apartment. Lucky we camped locally at least. Strange experience, but still a great night and a memorable experience.

The other notable event that happened recently was the Hawaiian-themed house party last night at Pam and Rich's place in downtown Uljin (the next town down from us). I don't own a Hawaiian shirt, so I drew some flowers on paper, cut them out and pinned them onto a bright shirt instead. Also, to keep it extra tropical, my hair was tied up in the shape of a pineapple. Kate opted for a more classy look, with a sarong and floral shirt arrangement, complemented by some nice summery jewelery. Everyone had a great time, helped along by the most evil vodka-jelly shots ever made. Thanks for those Kristian, next time add some water as well :P

So now here I am, relaxing on a wet and overcast sunday afternoon. it's been a fun, moderately paced couple of weeks. Better not get used to it though, since the next 3 weeks or so are going to be huge, starting with our dirty weekend away to Boryeong... stay tuned for some filthy pictures.
