Kota Kinabalu Part 2

We are back again - this time with a few photos of our past week in Kota Kinabalu.

We haven't done heaps of sightseeing since we have been here - a bit here and there, but overall we have just been have a bit of quiet time, enjoying walking around the town and getting ourselves ready (well as best as we can) for our big climb next week. This photo is of the beautiful water front at Kota Kinabalu that we go and sit by most nights (when it is not raining which it has been doing a lot of recently). The sunsets here are amazing and it has been great sitting down with a drink watching the sun slowly fall over the ocean.

Other than walking around town and through the many many shopping centres and markets, we have gone to the "beach" a lot - why the ""? Well, our first visit to the beach revealed a large population of nasty looking jelly fish. Lucky for us, the glorious Shrangri-la is right by the beach and has a number of large, very nice pools...we may or may not have visited them a couple of times...I say no more!

The central market here is fantastic to spend a couple of hours walking around - while most of it is typical tourist garbage, the food section is great - during the day it is full of interesting dried seafood and lots of fresh produce. At night, heaps of food stalls are wheeled out and the area is transformed into a foodies paradise with a wide selection of Malaysian specialties.

Well, that is about all for now. Tonight we are going to the Ramba night club in town which 'apparently' has free cocktails from 9pm for ladies...sorry Brendan. We are intrigued to find out what the catch is! Otherwise we are taking it easy for the next 4 days, trying not to get sick and praying for good weather while waiting for our Mount Kinabalu climb. We will be heading up on 28th, staying overnight half way up the mountain, then getting up at about 3:00am to try and reach the 4000m summit by 6am for the sunset on 29th July (happy birthday mum). We will shout out a big hello to you all from the tallest peak in South East Asia.

Until next time...
//Kate
